The goal of our section is three fold:

  • Improve the knowledge and expertise of persons involved in EDEP practice through education and discussion;
  • Advocate for the improvement of procedures and laws concerning EDEP matters;
  • Develop relationships amongst other EDEP practitioners and those looking to enter the practice area.

Term of Office: 1 year, annual September meeting to annual meeting (Next: September 2, 2020)
Annual Meeting/Elections: Elections during annual meeting held in September.
Structure: Monthly meetings rotating between a regular meeting, an educational meeting, and a networking/mentoring meeting.
Regular Meetings: Once a quarter (September, December, March, June) on the first Wednesday of the month at noon at Winston & Cashatt.

Education Component: Once a quarter (October, January, April, July)

Structure varies – some are roundtable discussions, some will offer CLE credits

Next Meeting: January 28th, Noon-1pm @ Gravis Law, 1309 W. Dean Ave, Suite 100 – “Ethics – Duties to Prospective and Former Clients, with a focus on Estate Planning and Elder Law issues.” Jonas Hemenway will present on this topic and moderate a round table discussion.

Networking/Mentoring Component: Once a quarter (November, February, May, August)

Structure varies – some are just social meetings, some are mentoring with law students and new practitioners

Legislative Component: Discussion of legislative actions of the committee will be part of each quarterly regular meeting

Mini-Meetings: Members are encouraged to reach out to the group anytime they have an issue to work through and ask for a mini meeting. Organizer just identifies a time and place and anyone who wants to come help discuss a difficult case will show up.
