The City of Airway Heights is recruiting for a full-time Public Defender. The attorney filling this position will act as court-appointed counsel representing indigent people in the Airway Heights Municipal Court. The attorney will represent clients in all phases of criminal proceedings, including arraignment, pretrial hearings, trial preparation and investigation, plea negotiations, trial and sentencing. The primary caseload will consist of misdemeanor offenses. The attorney will also assist management and other staff as directed and comply with legal standards and requirements.

Position Overview
We are seeking an Attorney to join our Estate Planning and Elder Law practice. In this role, you will advise clients and their families on estate planning strategies, trust and probate administration, and dispute resolution. You will serve as a trusted advisor helping clients protect their assets, minimize tax exposure, and navigate fiduciary responsibilities and conflicts.
This position is based in our Spokane Valley, WA main office and includes some travel (approximately 20-25%) to support clients and team members across our satellite offices in North Spokane, Kennewick, and Yakima.
Key Responsibilities
- Counsel clients on estate planning strategies and options
- Advise clients and families on trust and probate administration processes
- Draft and prepare estate planning and legal documents
- Represent and advise fiduciaries in administration matters and disputes
- Provide guidance through conflicts arising during trust or probate administration
- Counsel trustees regarding their duties and legal obligations
- Advise clients on strategies to minimize estate taxes and preserve wealth
- Provide planning solutions to protect assets from long-term care costs
- Assist with administration and distribution of trust and estate assets
- Provide guidance on matters including complex estates, business succession, and multigenerational planning
- Address cross-border issues such as foreign inheritance and tax considerations
- Navigate transfer tax audits and post-mortem tax planning strategies
- Collaborate with team members to deliver an exceptional client experience
Qualifications
- Active Washington State Bar license (required)
- Idaho State Bar license (a plus)
- Strong interest in Estate Planning and Elder Law
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Demonstrated commitment to outstanding client service
- Ability to manage a high-volume, fast-paced caseload
- Strong interpersonal skills with a high degree of empathy and professionalism
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn legal practice management systems
