The Spokane County Bar Association’s (SCBA) Volunteer Lawyers Program (VLP) seeks a qualified attorney candidate to serve in its newly-created VLP Attorney position. This position will report to the SCBA VLP Board of Directors and Standing Advisory Committee (STAC).Will oversee and ensure the effective and timely legal work of the VLP program, staff and volunteers in delivering coordinated pro bono civil legal services to qualified pro se clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and implementing case management plans for pro se clients in need of triaged civil legal services.

The VLP Attorney will have primary responsibility for development and implementation of the managed client service program, volunteer attorney training, drafting quarterly grant progress reports, and secondary responsibility for recruiting and retaining pro bono attorneys based upon identified client needs. The VLP Attorney will have additional Board and community relations responsibilities as they relate to implementation of the VLP’s mission and in consideration of key Washington State Access to Justice documents. The ideal candidate possesses a demonstrated commitment to the non-profit community including experience working with governing Boards, staff and volunteers. The Attorney may supervise qualified Rule 9 legal interns and will have no caseload of his/her own.

Qualifications: Member in good standing with the WSBA; minimum 5 years’ experience as licensed attorney; excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication ability; prior grant-writing and management; staff management; exceptional organizational abilities; effective decision-making ability; competency in Word, Excel, Adobe Pro Plus, Access, Outlook (email and master calendaring); well-organized; and is a flexible and creative thinker. Demonstrated ability to work with a large variety of individuals and organizations; and ability to effectively delegate.
Preferences: A heart for public service; prior service to law-related 501(c)(3) non-profit organization(s); Washington family law experience; prior staff and/or student and/or volunteers supervision; working knowledge of Quickbooks; and focus and vision.
